Geeks in May

Geeks On Tour!

For the month of May, we stayed at home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with one drive ‘across the alley’ for a presentation to PCBUG – a computer user group in Naples, FL. We also got our kayaks wet a couple of times! The first was because our friends, Jason and Nikki Wynn ofGone with The Wynns / YouTube fame had just anchored their new sailboat in Fort Lauderdale and we paddled to meet them, see pics in our May album. The other was to go scuba diving off Fort Lauderdale beach – our very favorite thing to do! See this video Jim made. We also presented our “What Does This Button Do?” online class most every week.

Where we’re going:  For June we are still at home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida giving a few presentations at local communities and webcasting our weekly show each Sunday. Then we’ll start our summer tour in July. See more details in the calendar listings below.

By the way, our pictures, Blogs, Web Albums, maps, and videos are all examples of what we teach.  You can learn how to plan, preserve, and share your travels (or your life.)  It makes the experience that much more enjoyable to get creative and share pictures, maps, stories, and movies with friends and family. Check out our Learning Library of Tutorial Videos, just go to GeeksOnTour.com and click the menu for Tutorial Videos. There are plenty of free videos in addition to our members only content to whet your appetite for learning.

An Accurate Travel Diary with Google’s Location History

One Day's travel recorded by Location History

If you turn on Location Services and allow Google Maps to save location history, it records everywhere you go – as long as your phone is with you. It also records the times and photos you took along the way. On an Android phone, you access this stored data by opening the Google Maps app, tapping the 3-line menu in upper left and choosing Timeline. Then select a day from the dropdown lists, and you will see where you went and what you did that day!

Finding Stuff in Windows 10

Type in the Search box

I hear so many people saying “I can’t find anything in Windows 10!”  “I spend all my time just trying to navigate in Windows 10 and I can’t get anything done.”

If you understand how Search works, you don’t ever need to navigate.

In Windows 10, when you click the Start menu, you’ll see a space that says, “Ask me anything.” If you click the microphone icon, you can talk to Cortana. But, if you type in this space it is a regular Search box.

We’re not talking here about using Search when you can’t find something … we’re talking about ALWAYS using search!

I have roughly 50,000 photos collected online using Google Photos.

Wanna watch my slideshow? I’ll bet not! You’d need a few days of uninterrupted time, and several buckets of popcorn!

No, I want to select just my best pictures and put them in Albums. Then I’ll share my Albums with you. This article will tell you how.

Share your Location with Glympse

I’ve spoken to many RVers who like to have some tool that their adult children can use to know where they are. Some use Facebook, some send an email or call every day. And now I’m meeting people who tell me they love using Glympse on their smartphones.
