I have a new windows 10 laptop. What is the easiest way to get the google pictures into the Windows 10 Photo app? Should I install Picasca? On my old computer which had the hard drive crash, I had the google apps as well as the Windows apps. Windows does not like google and seems to block everything google. Thanks for your advice. Dean
Congrats on a new laptop!
Realize your Google Photos are in the cloud – online. The windows 10 Photo App is on your computer and works with photos on your computer. So, if you download some pictures from Google Photos to a folder on your computer’s hard drive, then the Win10 Photo app can see them and work with them. There is no need to get Picasa – it does the same thing as Win10 Photos. Unless you are comfortable with Picasa and would prefer not to use Win10 Photos – your choice there.
Google Photos is not an app on your computer (except the Uploader whose sole purpose is to upload photos from your computer to Google Photos) To work with Google Photos using your computer, you need a Browser – like Chrome – and go to http://www.Photos.Google.com. This is very separate from anything that Windows does. There is no reason why you can’t use Win10 Photos as well as Google Photos. Just realize they are working on different sets of photos: Google Photos only sees pictures that are stored online, Win10 PHotos only sees photos that are stored on your computer’s hard drive.
Does that help?
